This Tips Tuesday we want to talk about the relationships between you, the client, and vendors!
I’m sure you have all heard your fair share of wedding nightmares -- the florist doesn’t show up, the food is cold, or the dj just can’t seem to get your last name right! While these things could happen, with an amazingly hand-picked team they simply would not.
As wedding professionals, we are in such a unique place to create the day of your dreams – a place where we get to drop into your family and relationships to celebrate an amazing moment, and then drop off as quickly as we came!
We wanted to comply a list of ways to get the most out of your vendors, creating friendly relationships which motivate us all to do the best we can for you.
1. All the Info – The greatest way to get the best of your vendors’ talents is to present all information quickly and in full. Give the DJ your full processional order, let the caterers know where you would like the cake table placed, and tell the planner, in detail, everything from additional décor set-up to phone numbers of important contacts and anything else they ask for. The quicker and more open you are with any decisions and changes; the more complete the vendor’s product will be in the end! Last minute guessing of what you would like while you are getting ready to strut down the aisle leaves is what opens the door for miscommunication.
2. All the Trust – As wedding professionals, this is our craft. Your bouquet, cake design, rental orders is what we have studied, perfected, and been doing for years. Yes your wedding is an amazing day, but it is also the 15th wedding we will have worked on this year. Create Pinterest boards for each vendor and then trust them and their craft. As creative people using florals, food, and music to deliver art it is best to allow your vendors love to surprise you with what they create! If you feel comfortable giving trust to your vendors, they can turn out amazing products for you. Especially since there are probably amazing flowers or ways to save money that you don’t even know about!
3. All the Respect – Yes you are paying your vendors a lot of money but remember that they are working with many other couples, and balancing other life things, too! You wouldn’t call your accountant at 9 o’clock on a Tuesday, so showing your vendors these little social graces in your contact with them creates an ease for them to be able to focus all attention on you during proper hours, rather than throwing in that load of laundry, making dinner, and responding to your emails all at the same time!
4. All the Thank Yous – If you believe your vendors have gone above and beyond for you there are many ways to show gratitude. Remember we work on a lot of these events a year and burn-out is easy to sneak into that can be easily alleviated by amazing people recognizing the work put in for them and giving a thank you!
Here are some ways to give thanks:
-A Card, probably our favorite! There is nothing better than receiving a thank you card, picture, or life update a month of two after the big event. We develop such special relationships with you that we always want to continue to watch your love unfold!
-A review, since our industry relies word of mouth and there is nothing more helpful than glowing reviews from clients who believe the services we provide were exceptional! If you feel that they went above and beyond then take a moment and let other couples know they can have just as amazing of a day as you did!
-Tips, You can include these gifts in your thank you cards or hand them out on the day of. Tipping is not mandatory, but usually more expected by carters and the venue, and always a lovely surprise to any vendor! Below are the average amounts to show your vendors an extra bit of monetary gratitude:
Caterers, Bakers, and Venues normally receive 15-20% of the total bill,
Photographers normally receive $50-$100 per shooter,
Your hair and makeup artists would normally receive 15-20% like your normal salon visit!
For DJs/Bands, a 10-15% tip is a nice gesture for keeping your party rocking!
The artists who bring your floral dreams to life (go Florists, we love you!) would typically fall in the 10-15% range.
Shoutout to the vendors that join us in making this wedding world go round. The things you create consistently awe us! And of course shoutout to our amazing couples who remind us of the warmth and joy that transcends age, race, and gender. You make our days so full love!
