Crazy for Candy

I am crazy for candy and lucky for me, the now trendy candy table or candy bar is an extremely popular feature at weddings these days. I usually recommend to my clients that they use the candy bar as a favor for their guests. If you already have cake and possibly some other dessert, people usually do not need candy as well. Folks usually don’t have the sweet tooth I have. But if you offer it as a favor, near the exit at the end of the evening, people will go crazy for it and love to bring it home for themselves or their children! Here are a few of my favorites!

You’re Engaged…Now What?

Congratulations you’re engaged! You’ve called your mom, showed your friends your ring and bought tons of wedding magazines and scoured the blogs. Now what do you do?

1. Determine your budget. You cannot plan a single thing unless you know what you have to work with. Be realistic and plan to stick to the budget!

2. Make your guest list. You cannot look for a venue, a caterer, a florist, until you know a rough estimate of how many people will be at your wedding. And if your guest list and our budget don’t seem to coincide very well, for example if the number of people you invite leaves for $20 per person for catering, then you may want to reevaluate the guest list, not the budget.

3. Set your priorities. You are about to be faced with a lot of decisions and if you don’t know what is most important to you, it is going to be difficult to make those decisions. Something you thought you really wanted is bound to come back with a price tag you don’t want. So decide now, what is most important to you? Is it photography, food, music? This way when the photography proposal comes back with a higher price tag than you planned, you can know that it is your number 1 priority and therefore may be worth taking some of the budget from music and relocating it to photography.

4. Hire a planner. Of course! Someone has to help you make all of these decisions and stick to your budget! Do this early on before you are so stressed out you hate planning your wedding, your fiance and your family!

To Videotape or Not?

This is a question most couples will ask themselves or their planners at some point in the planning process. Videography is often one of the first things cut from the budget. We can do so much with photos these days that couples are asking themselves if they really need a video. How many times are we really going to watch it? Well I can’t tell you how many times you might watch your wedding video, but I can tell you that the number one regret I hear from clients is that they didn’t videotape their ceremony at least. I know personally that I have no idea what my husband said during our vows (and I also have no idea where we wrote them down). I would really like to be able to listen to them, to see his face as I walked down the aisle, to experience all of those important moments again, not only during the crazy whirlwind that is being a bride and groom.

Another concern I hear is that wedding videos are so corny. The wedding video industry has come a long way from when your first friend got married and you watched some cheesy video set to some over played song. Now they can make a super 8 video and make everything look antiqued if that is what you are into. Today’s videos are much more produced and sleek, something you won’t be embarrassed to pull out and show your kids in 10 years.

Ultimately, only you can say if videography is something you want and have in your budget. Just know that you have many more options today and you may just need to be able to look back on a video in order to remember your big day! It goes fast!

What to Buy Your Bridesmaids

This is always a question I get, “can you help me with what to buy my braidsmaids”? Yes, I certainly can, but I think the best gifts are personal ones. Even if you buy everyone the same thing, try to make it personal in some way. Let them know you were thinking about them and what it meas to you to have them standing with you on this important day.
