Today’s Tip: Buffets

When planning an event people often think that they need to do a buffet because it is more affordable and that is all that will fit into their budget. Well did you know that a buffet can be more expensive, not less? It seems counter intuitive because a plated meal seems nicer, however, when you have a buffet, you have to have more food. There is no saying how many times Uncle Steve will go back to the buffet and you do not want to run out of food, so the caterers have to be prepared for that.

So, don’t rule out a plated meal if that is what you want, it may actually be more in your budget than the buffet!

Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms, moms to be, step moms and especially my mom. When I was growing up my mom would always say “you’ll understand how much I love you when you have your own daughter” and my sister and I would say “weeee knowwww moooom” very maturely and drawn out and annoyed by her over the top expressions of love. But in December when I brought my own daughter home and my husband and I stayed awake the entire night staring at her and I cried thinking “nothing bad can ever happen to her, she can never be unhappy or sad or lonely or hurt, I can never let that happen to her”, my next thought was “oh, I get it now”! My mom was right, we didn’t get it, we had no idea how much she loved us until we had our own children.

So, with that being said, I want to say I’m sorry Momma, for all of the times I rolled my eyes when you tried to tell me how much you loved me. I’m sorry for all of the times I wiggled out of a hug or didn’t want to give you a kiss or felt like you were being ridiculous for wanting to know where I was or what I was doing when I was 30+ years old and living across the country from you. I can’t promise I won’t ever again roll my eyes on the other end of the phone when you tell me to please be careful when I’m walking home alone, but at least I’ll understand.

Thank you for being the best mom (and now Nana) ever and in turn teaching me to be a good mom. I finally know what a hard job that was and I appreciate every day everything you did and still do for us.

Have a Wedding Picnic

We have been picnicking more than usual this spring and I love it. Why not have a picnic reception or a picnic rehearsal dinner? Everyone loves a picnic, they are so lovely, relaxed and fun. Just make sure your guests know the theme so that they dress appropriately for sitting on the ground. I love the idea of different colored quilts from home, picnic baskets and lemonade!

A Cake A Day

Why can’t it be a cake a day keeps the doctor away? Well at least it will keep the blues away, how’s that? I’ll take it! I’ve done this post before but there are just too many pretty cakes in the world to limit to one post. I’ve also said previously that I do not have a great love for fondant. But some of these cakes are just too beautiful too resist, fondant and all. And who am I to judge, it is still sugar, therefore I’ll still eat it!

Ok so now that I look at what I have compiled, I love bows and stripes on cakes, well…in general I like bows and strips.
