Vicki and Mike were married in a beautiful ceremony at the Carnegie Institution in June. You may remember them from their adorable engagement session at the National Zoo. Keeping with the theme of their engagement, Mike and Vicki named their tables after animals and had a peacock feather colored decor. Besides the great details they had so many lovely moments involving their family and friends. Two of my favorites were Mike’s grandfather blessing the challah and Vicki’s dad playing the accordion during the Hora, making for a wonderful mix of Vicki’s Jewish religion and Polish heritage. Congratulations Mike & Vicki!

I’m thrilled to share another wedding with my three favorite vendors, Danielle Cover Photography, LilyPad Weddings and Edge Flowers. Jessica and Manny were married in a beautiful day time ceremony last month. They were the most lovely, easiest couple to work with. Both being from Puerto Rico, many of their guests made the journey from there to be with the happy couples. Not at all deterred by the lunch time hour all of the guests were on the dance floor all afternoon dancing to Latin and pop music. The couple hosted a beautiful lunch at the Ritz Carlton. I love a morning wedding followed by a lunch, it left plenty of time for their out of town guests to enjoy the area. Best of luck Manny & Jessica!

Alex and Alex were married at Zaytinya and had their rehearsal dinner at Oyamel, they had an entire Jose Andres weekend. Zaytinya was originally built to be an art gallery so lends itself perfectly to a ceremony and reception, plus of course you get amazing food. The father of the bride played his harmonica with the band and their katubah was an amazing paper cut design of everything meaningful to the bride and groom. The couple was so relaxed and happy you would never have believed they were about to walk down the aisle. Despite the rain storm of the century that blew through 10 minutes before their ceremony, soaking guests and blowing away the patio umbrellas, the guests were also relaxed and everyone had a wonderful time celebrating Alex and Alex.

J & J were married on a beautiful day at the end of April at the GW Mt. Vernon Campus Hand Chapel. The little hidden gem of a ceremony site set the tone for the entire wedding. The Hand Chapel, tucked away in the woods on the Mt. Vernon Campus of GW has sloping angular ceilings, pews that recess toward the upper balcony, a built in pipe organ and floor to ceiling windows that look out into the woods. The bride, bucking tradition, did not walk down the center aisle, but appeared alone outside the window, entering from the front of the Chapel.
The reception, held at the House of Sweden was set up in the basement like a night club with low lighting, black walls, cushioned ottomans set around and high top tables in front of screens rotating pictures of the bride, groom and their families. The cocktail hour was held on the roof, which boasts the best view of DC right on the Georgetown waterfront with dinner looking out over the Potomac on the first floor.
I loved the couple’s laid back spirit and willingness to do things exactly as they wanted them done, not per traditional. They made for such a fun couple to work with. Best of luck J&J!

Amanda and Memo were married in May at Glenview Mansion, but traveled from Nicaragua for the wedding. The bride (who is from the area) and the groom (who is from Nicaragua) run a wonderful organization there through their church. They were so laid back and full of joy throughout the entire planning process, despite being so far away. Their families and friends could not have been happier for them and constantly mentioned what wonderful people Amanda and Memo are.
The ceremony and reception included touches of their home in Nicaragua with bowls for communion they brought from home, their friend playing a song in Spanish on his guitar, the toasts were translated into Spanish and the favors were the couple’s favorite coffee beans from home. They also brought their own rum from Nicaragua and their specialty cocktail was a mojito.
Congratulations Amanda & Memo!

Jessica & Jeremy had a DIY backyard garden wedding last month, shot by my favorite photographer, Danielle Cover. Everything about this lovely wedding was DIY, from the food (which the groom made all homemade, including the cake) to the homemade jam favors and the darling ribbon wands the 7 little boys carried down the isle. The bride and groom, both professional musicians, played a beautiful concert for their guests, joined by some friends and the bride’s father. I cannot think of a more perfect way for this laid back couple to celebrate. It was a joy to work with them on their wedding!

Allie & Matt were married last weekend at the Tidewater Inn on the Eastern Shore. I love her flowers and how relaxed the couple looks. The photographer, Danielle Cover Photography, called it one of her most fun weddings ever. Congratulations Allie & Matt.

Vicki and Mike got engaged last January at the National Zoo in the midst of a snow storm and during the send off for one of DC’s national treasures (at least for a little while) Tai Shan the panda. Mike and Vicki had an attachment to Tai Shan because upon moving to DC, they had their very first visit to the zoo the day Tai Shan was born. They went back to visit little Butterstick (as us Washingtonians affectionately called him before he was named) many times over the years, making Mike’s decision to propose during his going away party perfect! The Washington Post even got video of the big event!
And hence, Vicki and Mike’s adorable engagement session at the National Zoo by Emily Goodstein Photography. Emily is the author of a local award winning blog, Wild and Crazy Pearl, which I love!
