I recently looked at a venue for a client where the ceremony can take place in this lovely wooded area and became so inspired by the idea of ceremonies in the woods! What more beautiful decor could you ask for than nature?! Plus if you really just go out into a clearing, it is free! I love this idea, so earthy, yet elegant and beautiful.

To DIY or Not?
The DIY brides (and grooms) have become a huge trend as both the economy tanks and couples get more creative and invested in their weddings simultaneously. Being DIY is no longer just about saving money, brides and grooms want their wedding to have a little something personal of themselves and what better way to do that than to do it yourself! This is of course more tempting if you are a crafty sort, but DIYers beware, keep your crafting to a minimum.
I love a good DIY project just as much as anyone else and encourage anyone to offer a DIY favor or something special on their day, but discourage couples for doing everything themselves. The last thing you want to do on your wedding day is to schlep a ton of stuff to your site and then have to schlep it home at the end of the night. Even if you can drop it off the day before and your planner packs it all up for you the night off, it is too much. You also don’t want to run the risk of forgetting things or not thinking of something. There is also the risk of your project not going as planned and you having to spend more money in the end than it would cost to rent or buy what you need.
Keep in mind, how much is your time worth and don’t forget to factor that into the price of everything you make. You do not want to be stressed out the week of your wedding because you took on more than you could handle. You want to enjoy your wedding and the time leading up to it. This is a time to be pampered, enjoy your out of town guests who arrive early and get your beauty rest. This is not the right time to pull all nighters working on crafts.
If it is really important to you to make everything then delegate, delegate, delegate! Involve your planner, your mother, your mother-in-law, your sister, anyone who can handle a glue gun can help. And the best thing about delegating is that people want to help, they like to feel involved in your day. This of course is to a certain extent, but if you can give someone one project, then by all means, hand off anything you can!
If you are going to have a DIY wedding, make sure it is something you enjoy and not a chore! Have fun!
Real Weddings: Jessica & Manny
I’m thrilled to share another wedding with my three favorite vendors, Danielle Cover Photography, LilyPad Weddings and Edge Flowers. Jessica and Manny were married in a beautiful day time ceremony last month. They were the most lovely, easiest couple to work with. Both being from Puerto Rico, many of their guests made the journey from there to be with the happy couples. Not at all deterred by the lunch time hour all of the guests were on the dance floor all afternoon dancing to Latin and pop music. The couple hosted a beautiful lunch at the Ritz Carlton. I love a morning wedding followed by a lunch, it left plenty of time for their out of town guests to enjoy the area. Best of luck Manny & Jessica!

Get Away Transportation
Do you plan to make some sort of fabulous get away when you leave your wedding? Some couples stick it out to the very end and move on to the after party, but some prefer to make a dramatic exit. Your options are no longer limited to a limo!

Grand Exits
Many couples choose to make a grand exit from either their ceremony or reception. At the same time, many venues and religious venues are no longer allowing anything to be tossed. There is the cleaning up to factor in, flowers staining your dress of the floor, bird seed swelling in birds and hurting them, balloons being bad for the environment when released, and the list goes on and one. However, couples are getting creative and there are still plenty of ways you can leave your ceremony or reception with an amazing send off.
Groom’s Cakes
Grooms cakes started as a southern tradition. There was once a superstition about sleeping with the groom’s piece of cake under your pillow and dream of the man she would marry. While this superstition may have died the tradition has spread from the south to the rest of the country. They are a fun tradition often presented at rehearsal dinner now, but also at the weddings along side the wedding cake. They usually represent some interest of the grooms. Use your imagination, have fun with these and give your groom a nice surprise.
